If Arthur is not the Joker we know, that completely reflects what the film is talking about: it’s not an original DC villain story, it’s a beginning of Batman. . Joker is a metaphor, a product of both a mentally ill man and a city that neglects him – Arthur is an influential person but he is not the last. Waynes was killed because of the clown movement, and the Joker would actually get out of it. At the time, Arthur was being questioned by an Arkham employee about his progress, and the patient started laughing uncontrollably. When asked what that smile meant, he answered, “you won’t understand? ”
What is the meaning behind this smile? Is Bruce – son legally now robbed of his innocence by the actions of Arthur? Is that what he inspired, and how could the Joker tear Gotham apart? Was the psychiatrist himself, whom Arthur probably killed based on the red blood covering the sole in the final scene?
The last scene of the Joker takes place in a room with a white wall that looks like he once imagined – his mother in flashbacks 30 years ago. The psychiatrist reminisces about his social work from the beginning of the movie. All of this seems to be evidence that the movie you just saw is not real.
